HWAS offering free Mental Health First Aid course to students

Niagara College’s Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services (HWAS) is excited to offer a free two-day Mental Health First Aid course.

Taking place during break week on Feb. 24 and 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room N136 at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Mental Health First Aid course will provide students with valuable skills to support a friend, classmate or themselves during tough times.

Participants will receive a nationally recognized certificate from the Mental Health Commission of Canada acknowledging the completion of the course.

Mental Health Retreat

During the break week, HWAS is also offering a free Student Mental Health Retreat.

Taking place on Wednesday Feb. 26 from 8: 30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the retreat will offer various mindfulness and meditation sessions, activities such as yoga or theatre arts and workshops on mental health best practices.

All NC students are eligible to apply to be selected as a participant and can do so by filling out the student application survey (via Survey Monkey) by Feb. 19.
