Stephanie Jones is back in the spotlight for her knock-out performance in the film EFC.
In December, the professor in Niagara College’s Acting for Film and Digital Media program was nominated for Best Actor for her role as Donna in the film EFC. The award ceremony took place in Palermo, Italy at the Paladino D’Oro Sport Film Festival.
The film – written and directed by Jaze Bordeaux – tells the story of a showdown between a reigning champion and a rising star in the world of women’s mixed martial arts and boxing.
“It’s another wonderful honour and professional accomplishment for Stephanie, and for the College,” said Charles Kopun, Associate Dean in the School of Media. “Representing NC at the film festival was a chance for the Acting program to shine internationally, and speaks to the quality of faculty we have at Niagara College.”
This is the second time Jones has been recognized for her role in the film, winning Best Supporting Actor at the New York International Film Festival in the spring of 2024.
“Attending the festival was an invaluable experience that directly supports my development as a teacher of acting at Niagara College,” said Jones. “It has allowed me to stay current in the industry and bring firsthand insights back to my students. It has deepened my understanding of diverse storytelling approaches and acting techniques, which I can integrate into my lessons.”
At the festival, Jones caught up with Bordeaux, who came to the College last year to speak with students.

“By connecting students with professionals like Jaze Bordeaux and sharing experiences from international platforms, we provide an enriched learning environment that prepares them for real-world success,” said Jones.
While in Palermo, Jones embodied her role as an ambassador for the College during evening networking events.
“Attending an international event like this comes with the understanding that you are there as an ambassador to everything you are: a Canadian, a female, an acting instructor, an actor – you name it.”
Jones has a humble attitude towards accolades, and is grateful to the College for their support on-screen and in the classroom, including taking time away for this special opportunity.
“My involvement in such a prestigious event highlights Niagara College’s commitment to supporting educators who actively contribute to their fields.”
