Students from NC’s Hairstyling and Barbering programs showcased their skills and community spirit at the Teaching Salon’s Cut-a-Thon fundraiser held on November 29. The event was put on to help raise funds for NC’s United Way Workplace Campaign, “NC Cares in a Million Ways.”

For a minimum donation of $10, clients received haircuts and towel shaves from the talented students. Appointments were available at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and several walk-in clients were also accommodated before an unexpected campus closure cut the fundraiser short.
Despite the early closure, students successfully completed services for 17 clients over two-and-a-half hours, raising over $280. To further support the cause, cash purchases of products on the day received a 20% discount. Additionally, donations of any amount could be made throughout the week at the reception desk, ensuring continued support for United Way.
“All of our students were very excited for the event and happy to interact with the community while they practiced their skills,” said Courtney Booth, Hairstyling/Barbering Technologist at NC. “It is a rewarding experience as they prepare for their final exams before they graduate from the Hairstyling and Barbering programs and enter their apprenticeships.”

Clients expressed their enthusiasm for supporting the United Way campaign while receiving exceptional hair services from the students.
“I have no doubts that we could have doubled our total had the campus remained open that day, but I am proud of what our students were able to accomplish in a short amount of time and how they contributed to this important cause,” added Booth.
Today is the last day to donate to NC’s United Way Workplace Campaign and help make a difference in our community. To donate, visit the NC Cares website.
