For the third year in a row, Niagara College’s Recreation Therapy Program is supporting seniors in our community one stocking at a time through Stockings of Love – an initiative that provides full stockings to seniors living in long-term care homes in the Niagara community.
This year, first year Recreation Therapy students, under the guidance of Professor Beth Astles, have been collecting donations of items to fill stockings. With a goal of filling 160 stockings, they are asking the NC community to help spread some holiday cheer by donating to this important cause.
Staff, students and faculty can support this initiative by donating fully stuffed stockings, donating individual items for stockings, or by providing a cash donation that can be used to purchase a stocking and items to stuff it with.
Items in need are:
- Socks
- Lotion
- Fun holiday items (antler headbands, Santa hats, etc.)
- Search worlds/ puzzle books/ colouring books
- Individually wrapped snacks
- Small items that residents can keep in their rooms
Those interested in donating to Stockings of Love can drop of items or monetary donations in room M105 at the Welland Campus from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If you are unable to drop-off donations, or would like to donate by e-transfer, please contact Beth Astles by emailing [email protected].
Donations will be accepted until December 12, 2024.
