On November 8, YourTV released a segment on Gillian’s Place’s annual Wrapped in Courage Pancake Breakfast, in support of Woman Abuse Prevention Month, held at Market Square in St. Catharines on November 7.

Niagara College supported the event, with Culinary Arts students, accompanied by Benchmark Chef Justin Downes, preparing pancakes and sausages for attendees.

In the segment, Craig Youdale, Dean of Culinary, Tourism and Beverage Studies, shared, “We’ve worked with Gillian’s Place for over a decade and have done the Pancake Breakfast every year since. It’s always an important group to work with and an important way to bring awareness to gender-based violence, so we just love to support them any way we can.”

He highlighted how this opportunity not only allows students to apply their skills in a real-world setting but also teaches them how to support important social causes and give back to the community through their culinary expertise.

“The ability to cook food in a large setting is a really important skill. It brings people together, helps support causes, and demonstrates social responsibility. These are valuable lessons for our students. Learning to do this is something they can use down the road and leverage this skill to help others.”
