Niagara College graduates and community members had the opportunity to attend a job fair for The Hope Centre at NC’s Welland Campus on October 30.
Since 1974, The Hope Centre has been dedicated to strengthening the Welland community by offering a wide range of essential services to the community.
This job fair was held to recruit staff for the Hope Centre’s new 50-bed housing-focused shelter in Welland, being built by the Niagara Region. The new facility, slated to open in January, will be a vital support to those in crisis, offering access to shelter and resources as the Region continues to find long-term solutions to homelessness.
Niagara College Career Services partnered with The Hope Centre and HR Off-Site to host the job fair. Career Services staff invited graduates from several Niagara College programs, including our Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Care, and Community and Justice Studies programs, to attend the event. About a third of the job fair attendees were Niagara College grads.
“We were delighted to hold this event at our Welland Campus and to be able to promote this job fair to our talented graduates,” said Christina Farow, Director of Academic Advising and Career Services at the Welland Campus. “It’s an honour to be able to work with an agency that does so much outstanding work in our community.”
The Hope Centre was recruiting for multiple full-time Intensive Case Manager positions, staff who will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to clients experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, addictions, and other health-related issues.
“Child and Youth Care Program graduates who attended the Niagara College job fair last week were afforded the valuable opportunity to network with potential employers from the Hope Centre of Welland. In addition to demonstrating their specialized skills in supporting children, youth and families who access Hope Centre services, they gained valuable exposure to potential job prospects while honing their professional networking abilities,” said Sherry Visser-Fleming, Professor, Child and Youth Care Program.
The HR Off-Site team was very pleased with the job fair turnout and the quality of the candidates who attended.
“Our job fair at Niagara College was an outstanding success! The NC team provided a seamless experience, guiding attendees smoothly from the moment they arrived to when they connected with us,” said Julia Sebastian, CEO of HR Off-Site. “The entire coordination process was a pleasure, thanks to the dedicated and hardworking team at NC, who ensured everything ran effortlessly. We’re grateful for their professionalism and support in making this event a memorable one.”
