In recognition of Woman Abuse Prevention Month, Niagara College will bring awareness and educational opportunities to violence against women. The month of significance is a chance to unite as a community to help end violence against women in our province, and ultimately, around the world.

Within their lifetime, one in three women will experience sexual violence, with women being three times more likely to experience stalking and three-and-a-half times more likely to be a victim of intimate partner violence than men.

The risk of experiencing violence is higher for women who are Indigenous, racialized or newcomers, as well as women with disabilities

Kaytee Smith, NC’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Coordinator, will run a virtual workshop, Gender-Based Violence 101, for students and employees from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Consent is Key

We are all expected to practice consent: with partners, dates, friends, colleagues… and anyone that crosses our path. Consent promotes wellness, respect, understanding and it’s  the law.

Consent is one of the ways to prevent sexual violence. The ongoing Consent is Key campaign provides our college community with awareness  and events on topics related to sexual violence prevention. The Consent is Key website offers a number of services to anyone impacted by sexual and/or gender-based violence, including resources, how to file a complaint and how to get help or support
