Attention cricket fans! Niagara College is hosting and playing in the first Ontario College Recreation (OCR) T-10 outdoor cricket tournament of the season on June 25. Participating colleges also include Conestoga, Humber, Mohawk, Seneca and Sheridan.
The tournament takes place at the Niagara Cricket Centre (2711 Thorold Townline Rd., Thorold) from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with NC’s cricket team playing at 9 a.m. (vs. Mohawk) and at 11:15 a.m. (vs. Seneca). The top four teams will play in the finals at 4:30 p.m.
NC students and employees who are able to get to the venue are welcome to cheer on the team. With the tournament taking place during break week, there is no student transportation available.
Admission is free and it is recommended that fans bring a hat, sunscreen, water/snacks, and a lawn chair/blanket as there is limited seating and no access to food or water on site for spectators.
This is the second year that NC is hosting an OCR tournament. NC’s extramural cricket team was formed last year in response to a strong demand and interest in the sport from international students. The 15-player team is made up of students from a variety of programs across the Welland and Daniel J. Patterson campuses who represent multiple countries.
The team will also be participating in a tournament hosted by Mohawk College later this summer on July 25.
