YourTV released a segment on May 16 announcing a unique partnership between Niagara College, the Niagara Catholic District School Board, and Notre Dame College School aimed at expanding crucial skilled trades programming. The segment features a gathering of partner organizations, students, and alumni at the Niagara Launch Centre in the Seaway Mall, Welland, on May 15, reaffirming their commitment to to train desperately needed tradespeople.

During the segment, Evan DiValentino, Senior Director of Academic Transformation & Initiatives at Niagara College, discusses the college’s goal to expand trades training capacity off-campus through this partnership. He also highlights the great potential at the Launch Centre and explains how this summer, the partnership will extend the post-secondary Construction Skills program — a collaboration between Niagara College and the Niagara Home Builders’ Association (NHBA) — to help address the skills gap.

“Some traditional learning in the classroom will take place and then students will [transition] into a workshop style atmosphere…after eight weeks of training, those students will go off into job placements…so over the course of four months, we’re going to see about eighty students come through this space.” said DiValentino.
