Niagara College has been nominated for three Niagara UNITY Awards, and it’s up to voters to decide who the winners will be.

For the past 10 years, the Niagara UNITY Awards have recognized the important successes of individuals, municipal organizations and businesses that have made an impact on the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Voting is open until May 20. The winners will be announced during the Niagara UNITY Awards ceremony at Club Roma in St. Catharines on June 5.

The Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) has been nominated for the Community Involvement Award, which recognizes a group or organization that has made a positive impact in helping or changing the 2SLGBTQ+ community of Niagara and has shown leadership and future development within the Niagara community.

Niagara College’s Rainbow Knights Club has been nominated for the Outstanding School/Gay-Straight Alliance Award. The award is given to an academic institution or student-run group that focuses on supporting the young members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community of Niagara in a positive and impactful manner. Nominees for this award are making a difference by overcoming obstacles in their own schools, and by working on projects that have benefited their 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Rounding out NC’s nominations is Bruin Pol, President of the NC Rainbow Knights Club, who has been nominated for the Brenda Baldwin Award – named for the late Brenda Baldwin whose involvement and fundraising efforts with the Imperial Court of Niagara and her overwhelming support of Pride Niagara’s development was unmeasurable.

The award recognizes an individual’s achievements in furthering positive awareness in the 2SLGBTQ+ community of Niagara over the past year.

Voting is open to all members of the public. Click here to cast a ballot.
