The three Niagara dailies (St. Catharines Standard, Niagara Falls Review and Welland Tribune) announced that NC is hosting its Spring BioBlitz at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake on April 11.
The article highlights that the free, family-friendly event is organized by the College’s sustainability office and students, where volunteers will identify as many species as possible to create a baseline for researchers and the local community to monitor biodiversity over time.
Taryn Wilkinson, Manager of Sustainability, is quoted in the article: “BioBlitz is a chance for the community to explore our campus biosphere alongside expert scientists, community members, and passionate Niagara College students. We look forward to welcoming amateur enthusiasts to help us identify and catalogue native species, which is especially important as climate change and pollution impact local habitats.”
