Story written by NC Public Relations student Dana Pay:
Niagara College takes great pride in providing students with practical, applied skills that help elevate them in the professional world once they graduate.
On Wednesday, March 20, Carol Phillips, Dean of Dean, Community Services, Justice and Fitness Studies, hosted the inaugural Program Advisory Council (PAC) and Field Placement appreciation event to thank and recognize the many organizations who support students across the Schools of Community Services, and Justice and Fitness.
Planned and executed by a team of five PR students, as a part of the Niagara College Public Relations program, the event celebrated student success thanks to community and industry support.

The event was emceed by Jaclyn Frail, Associate Dean of School of Community Services and the evening kicked off with live music from local musicians Ruben and Renee as delicious appetizers were served by The Core catering team. Students at the NC Teaching Greenhouse created the beautiful floral centerpieces and NC wine from the Teaching Winery was served.
Six current Recreation Therapy, Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Care, Educational Assistant, Adult Support, and Autism & Behavioural Science students took to the stage to say a few words of thanks to those who helped them in their respective fields as internship employers and PAC members. Each student wore a name tag with a flag from their home country to highlight how proud NC is to have students from all around the world.
The event space at The Core, the student pub at the Welland campus, was completely transformed into an evening of elegance, fun and appreciation.
“What makes Niagara College really shine is our outstanding support from community placement organizations that provide students with applied, hands-on experiences and opportunities,” said Dean Carol Phillips.
The appreciation event ran from 4:30 to 7 p.m. with guests staying until the very end of the evening.
Though this was the first appreciation event held for PAC and Field Placement members, it certainly won’t be the last. The event was greatly received, and the evening allowed for guests to connect in person in ways that haven’t been possible in a long time. Plans for next year are already underway!
