Niagara College continues to expand its global reach by taking Niagara to the world through customized training programs.

Recently, students, faculty, and staff from Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA), Egypt, participated in a transformative series of workshops focused on technology use in the classroom. Delivered virtually in French, the workshops were conducted between December 10 to 16, and included presentations, interactive activities and integrated discussions.

The customized learning experience was administered in partnership between NC’s Global Customized Training and Consulting team, NC’s School of English Language Studies, PUA, and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

NC’s School of English Language Studies Professors Faith Marcel and Nadeen Sullivan played crucial roles in the workshops’ curriculum design and development.

“These workshops highlighted the cutting-edge expertise in educational technologies and language learning that we offer at Niagara College,” said Marcel, who also participated in the delivery of the workshops. “It has been a privilege to be a part of this unique and innovative international project and to witness the transformative potential of this experiential learning opportunity for the participants.”

The first workshop, Modernization of Learning Methods, included modules such as Educational Technology Analysis, Developing Interactive Activities with Instructional Technologies, and Facilitating Technology-enabled Learning. The second and third workshops highlighted Technology Applications for Engagement, Motivation and Success in Modern Language Learning, as well as International Linguistic and Cultural Resource Development.

The participants achieved significant outcomes, including acquiring skills and strategies for seamlessly integrating educational technology into their higher education classrooms. They also developed the ability to analyze diverse technologies, assess their pedagogical suitability, and design interactive activities. Additionally, the workshops highlighted the exploration of technology applications in language learning, fostering cross-cultural and cross-linguistic engagement.

“The emphasis on cross-cultural and cross-linguistic discussions allowed participants to reflect on applying educational technologies in diverse educational contexts in Egypt, especially to enhance the learning of the French language and culture,” said Marcel. “This helped broaden participants’ perspectives.”

Niagara College’s partnership with PUA Egypt underscores its dedication to global education and cross-cultural collaboration.
