Niagara College’s commitment to sustainable development gained recognition through its recent addition to Colleges and Institutes Canada’s (CICan) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Toolkit. Led by Taryn Wilkinson, Manager of Sustainability, the NC United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal Module has been featured in the Toolkit’s academic category, which refers to how the SDGs are embedded in learning and teaching, faculty and curriculum development, co-curricular student experiences, and place-based experiential learning.
Together with the Centre of Academic Excellence, NC Sustainability created this module for staff and students to explore and learn about the SDGs, and their specific application at Niagara College. The module educates on the SDGs and the initiatives that are already contributing to progress towards achieving the SDGs. It also provides tips as to how an organization, as well as individuals, can start taking action, whether that be in their studies, work, or day-to-day life.
This module has also aided in the development of additional modules for the new Niagara College Institute for Global Education and Training and has been included in predeparture training for all Be World Ready participants.
During SDG Week, which took place March 4 to 8, CICan also highlighted NC’s contribution across its platforms and newsletter, further showcasing the College’s role in promoting sustainable development.
