A message from Shawna Luey, Senior Director, International Students:
I am pleased to share that Fernando Gama will be moving into the permanent role of Director, International Student Services. In Fall 2023, Fernando took on an interim contract in this role. He focused on supporting our team through the fall and winter starts with a student-centered approach and mission to keep us moving forward. His journey from NC international student to this leadership role has provided him with a well-rounded perspective and genuine connection to our community.
Fernando began his career in law in his home country of Brazil. Based on his desire to use this education and profession to help others he worked for many years in a practice and the court system. He later chose Canada to settle in with his family and is a now a proud Niagara College Business – Sales & Marketing graduate. From his student experience and his years of work on the Global Business Development team, Fernando brings a rich and well-rounded understanding of the international student experience in our community. His experience has provided him with an ability to navigate complex situations with multiple perspectives and engage with diverse cultural backgrounds and a variety of stakeholders. He is also a current Regulated International Student Advisor (RISIA).
Fernando is eager to lead a thriving and dedicated international Student Services team comprised of Immigration and Academic Advising, Housing and Settlement Advising, Student Accounts and Financials, Student Engagement, and an incredible team of Student Assistants. We look forward to his contributions to the college’s vision, which is so personal to his own lived experience.
