Niagara College’s Health, Wellness & Accessibility Services (HWAS) department is inviting students to participate in its first Annual Student Mental Health Retreat on Thursday, February 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The event is taking place during break week to allow students to join the full-day retreat that will feature mindfulness and meditation sessions, activities such as yoga or drumming, and workshops on mental health best practices. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in focus groups at the event to share their lived experiences with mental health.
The focus groups are intended to gather student voices about mental health and wellbeing on campus and will help inform the development of NC’s Student Mental Health and Well-being Framework. The Framework is being developed as part of the College’s adoption of the National Standard for Mental Health and Well-Being for Post-Secondary Students, with a goal to enhance the mental health student experience at NC.
The Student Mental Health Retreat and the Mental Health and Well-being Framework align with the College’s commitment to enhancing the wholistic student experience, a key element in the Strategic Plan.
Employees are encouraged to share this opportunity with students.
There is no cost for students to participate in the retreat. Lunch and snacks will be provided, as well as an honourarium for transportation (bus and/or parking) if needed.
How do students apply?
All NC students are eligible to apply to be selected as a participant and can do so by filling out the student application survey (via Survey Monkey) by Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 11:59 p.m. (extended deadline).
Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, Feb. 16.
