A message from President Sean Kennedy:
I am pleased to invite you to register to join our annual Day of Reflection on Wednesday, February 28. The event will take place in the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus, with light refreshments and networking beginning at 8:15 a.m. and the program starting at 9 a.m. Lunch will follow.
Day of Reflection 2024 will take a deeper dive into NC’s commitment to social inclusion and environmental sustainability, a key area of focus in our Strategic Plan. It will feature a plenary session focusing on the important work being done across the college in sustainability and EDI. Break-out sessions will provide an opportunity to identify ways we can each support these commitments.
I look forward to a fruitful discussion of what social inclusion and environmental sustainability means to you and your work, and ways that NC can continue to take action for the betterment of our communities, our environment and society as a whole.
To demonstrate our commitment to this area of our strategic plan, we are asking you to approach the day with sustainability in mind. Here are some things you can do to prepare for the day:
- Download the Wayfinder app on your phone. We will be avoiding paper signage for this event and will be encouraging everyone to use the Wayfinder app to find their way to breakout rooms, bathrooms, and lunch. Don’t worry – we will give you a demo on how to use the app!
- Bring a reusable coffee cup for your coffee. Students will be doing a waste audit of all the waste generated at this event.
- Bring in any good condition, small household items or clothing as donations for a Free Store for students that we will be hosting in the week following the event. Please keep in mind that these items must be small enough for students to potentially transport home on public transit.
Day of Reflection is a time for our NC community to come together to reflect on the past year, learn, and identify new ways to collaborate. We all benefit from the opportunity to gather to reflect, learn, and reconnect in person, to put names to faces, and to open the door to stronger connection across the college.
Please register for Day of Reflection no later than Friday, February 23.
I look forward to seeing you on February 28.
