Leading at NC: Registration open for January start Management Success Program

Following two successful cohorts of NC leaders, the Management Success Program is back in January 2024, and registration is now open.

“The Management Success Program was a true learning experience in which I discover my own potential, understand other perspective and learn so many tools to tackle change and conflict,” said Dr. Ana Cristina Vega Lugo, Scientific Manager with Research & Innovation.

The six-week program will begin January 23, 2024, with weekly modules designed for new and experienced leaders alike (including those in acting manager roles) to increase their ability to manage effectively within the NC context, understand and apply best practices, and through discussions with peers, mentors and guests, engage in learning conversations and reflective practice.

From just six months to 20 years of experience at NC, the 35 leaders who completed the program since Winter 2022 benefitted from broadening their networks and mentorship from fellow leaders.

“I loved how catered the program was to our NC values, culture, and way of leading,” said Jana Boniferro, Director, Alumni Relations, who was part of the Fall 2023 cohort. “The program broadened my network of folks to lean on.”

Boniferro cites the support of a learning buddy and experienced senior leaders like her program mentor, Vince Malvaso, Senior Director, Finance.

“I know I could pick up the phone and call at any time,” said Boniferro.

Duane Bender joined NC as Associate Dean, School of Technology Studies in August and was part of the Fall cohort.

“The core of the program is based on solid business and behavioral research, and the delivery was done by seasoned NC professionals,” said Bender. “Apart from the content, the most valuable part of the program was to meet NC colleagues and build your NC network.”

Bender valued President Sean Kennedy’s direct involvement in the program and the chance to ask questions directly.

For Boniferro who is newer to her leadership role, the Management Success Program was a chance to apply knowledge from her MBA program to an NC context.

“I’ve never worked at a place that invested in me so much as a leader,” said Boniferro. “The program speaks to the culture we are trying to steward at the College. It is part of our roadmap to success.”

Recognizing that the College is going through a time of immense change, Boniferro says the program recognizes that the needs of NC employees has changed, and leaders need to adapt.

A believer in lifelong learning, Boniferro says the program is for leaders of any experience level.

“You’re always going to learn something from your peers.”
