Shawna Luey will begin her role as Senior Director, International Students in January 2024

A message from Sean Coote, Vice President, International:

I am very pleased to announce that, after an extensive recruitment process, Shawna Luey will be joining the international team as the Senior Director, International Students. Shawna returns to the International Division after three years in Enrolment Services as NC’s Director, Enrolment Services – Financial Aid, where she has led the team back to campus and acquired new knowledge in the domestic student services portfolio. Prior to this, she spent 15 years developing her immigration, intercultural, and people leadership skills through successive roles as International Student Advisor and Associate Director, International Student Services. Shawna is a graduate of Niagara College and Brock University and holds her Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) designation. Shawna has a passion for teaching and learning and consults and facilitates for the CBIE International Student Immigration Education Program and Agent Training Program.

Shawna’s return is welcomed as we expand our global reach as part of NC’s strategic plan, which includes increases in international enrolment and significant study / work abroad opportunities. Shawna has participated in and led Be World Ready experiences to Ecuador, South Africa, India, and Vietnam, which supplemented her already strong global competencies, cultural understanding and warm leadership style.

Shawna will help her team navigate the newly created set of common sector-wide international standards, which is meant to formalize what NC has always done well, but provides an opportunity for introspection of our current services and programs. Niagara College prides itself on being a leader in international education offering a unique set of student supports and opportunities and Shawna is excited to bring her love for international education and student services to this new role starting in January.

Please join me in congratulating Shawna.
