For the third consecutive year, the Métis flag is flying at Niagara College campuses to mark Louis Riel Day, acknowledged nation-wide on November 16.

Louis Riel – considered the “Father of Manitoba” – was an important Métis leader who was unjustly executed in 1885 for leading the Northwest Resistance in defense of Métis rights. He is honoured nation-wide on Nov. 16 on the anniversary of his death and the Red River Resistance, which followed the establishment of a provisional government by Riel and his followers.

Today, the College remembers Riel’s contributions and advocacy for the protection of the rights and culture of the Métis Nation.
