Dean, Health Sciences, Sinéad McElhone

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Sinéad McElhone has been appointed as the Dean of Health Sciences.

Sinéad is an experienced healthcare leader with expansive experience in public health and postsecondary education. She has held various roles at Niagara Region Public Health since 2013, most recently overseeing the implementation of several key strategic initiatives, including the COVID-19 Evaluation project. During the pandemic, she served as the Acting Director of Organizational and Foundational Standards (OFS) and has also worked as an Epidemiologist. In addition, Sinéad has been an adjunct professor at Brock University, where she has taught various courses over the past six years. She has also served as Program Director and Associate Professor of the BSc (Hons) Public Health Nutrition program at Leeds Beckett University in the United Kingdom.

Sinéad holds a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Life and Health Sciences, and a BSc (Honours) in Human Nutrition, both from Ulster University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Health Research from the University of Leeds. As Niagara College embraces its role of providing highly skilled and knowledgeable graduates for a healthcare sector in urgent need of front-line healthcare workers, I am confident that Sinéad’s extensive experience will be invaluable as she engages in the leadership of our health sciences expansion.

I also wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Carol Phillips for her exceptional dedication and hard work as the interim Dean of Health Sciences during our recent transitional phase. Her experience, commitment and contributions have been truly invaluable to the department.

Sinéad assumes her new role at NC on December 4. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Sinéad as she embarks on her new role as the Dean of Health Sciences at Niagara College!
