As the fall term gets started, the NC Libraries and Learning Commons team is looking forward to educating students, faculty and staff on its new and improved resource platform.

This past May, NC Libraries and Learning Commons transitioned its Library System and Catalogue from ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Summon’ to ‘Alma’ and ‘Page 1+’.

On September 12 (Daniel J. Patterson Campus) and September 14 (Welland Campus) NC Libraries and Learning Commons is hosting a Page 1+ launch event where students can explore the new digital archives platform and search for resources for their assignments. Faculty are also invited to come by to learn about the new system and how to find resources for their courses.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the library at both campuses with demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is not required.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be offered to attendees who take part in small scavenger hunts and students will have the chance at winning a prize bag by filling out a form via a QR code at the event.

“There was a lot of hard work put into this by the Library & Learning Commons team to make sure students, staff, and faculty had an improved experience searching for all of our resources,” said Bellan Dye, Library Technician, Outreach & Advocacy.

“The more we can advocate for a better user experience, the more successful everyone will be. We are really happy to be able to celebrate those accomplishments and for everyone to enjoy the new opportunity to locate relevant resources much quicker.”

About the new system

By switching to Alma and Page 1+, ncLibraries joined a consortium with 19 other colleges in Ontario. Library support staff from across the province share in the operation and maintenance of this single, universal system, improving the efficiency of library services and the research process for students and faculty.

The Page 1+ project website further explains the benefits. A video tutorial is also available from ncLibraries to help users navigate through the new system, which includes books, videos, articles, journals and more.
