On September 1, the three Niagara dailies (the St. Catharines Standard, Niagara Falls Review and Welland Tribune) released an article discussing how Niagara post-secondary institutions are responding to the federal government’s decision to put a potential cap on international students to alleviate concerns around Canada’s housing affordability.
In the article, NC’s VP International, Sean Coote comments on the proposed cap of International enrolments and provides important context on the impact of interational student and graduates locally and beyond: “International students play a very vital and critical role in terms of our enrolment mix and balance and obviously our financial sustainability as an institution[…] as well as bringing classrooms and communities a cultural richness and diversity.”
Coote also comments, “[International students] play a very important role in our community here in Niagara and although specific details aren’t available yet … any shift in the international student populations by the federal government, it’s important that it’s planned to allow our institutions to adjust.”
