A message from Fiona Allan, Vice-President, Academic:

With heartful good wishes, please join me in congratulating Angela Butt on her upcoming retirement on July 28, 2023 following 16 years of dedication, passion, and expertise devoted to excellence in nursing and health care programs.

Angela’s devotion to the nursing profession, her compassion and patient-focused approach to education have left an indelible mark, influencing colleagues, students and the broader healthcare landscape. Her passion and commitment to excellence have been an inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by her Niagara College family.

Since joining as faculty in 2007, Angela has been a valued member of the School of Nursing and Allied Health. She initially served as Coordinator of the Personal Support Worker program from 2010-2015, and later assumed the role of Manager of International Nursing Post Graduate Studies & Clinical Education. In 2016, she further progressed to become Associate Dean, Nursing and PSW and currently holds the position of Dean, Health Sciences.

During Angela’s career, she has been instrumental in the success of numerous projects. Her most recent contribution has been to the provincial Nursing Program Transformation Initiative (NPTI). This initiative is a collaborative project with all 24 colleges and provides flexible study options to progressive nursing credentials to meet the labour market demands of the health care sector.

In response to the demands imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Angela and the team in nursing led the college in the development of safety protocols for academic delivery on campus in response to the directives of public health.  Angela was also instrumental in supporting the increased need for nurses in Ontario. She played a pivotal role in the expansion of enrolment for the Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker program in 2021. Angela enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to respond to the patient care needs of the health and long-term care systems.

Additionally, Angela played a crucial role in incorporating Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) dementia education to its Practical Nursing, Community Mental Health, Personal Support Worker and Gerontology programs. She has been a long-time supporter of dementia education for healthcare students to ensure they receive comprehensive knowledge in this area and approach patients with respect and compassion.

As Angela embarks on this new chapter in her life, I want to take this opportunity to thank her for the countless contributions she has made to our academic leadership team and extend my warmest wishes as she embarks on her next journey.

Thank you, Angela, you’ve made a difference in the many lives you have touched. All the best!
