NC's cricket team will face Brock in the Niagara Cricket Cup final on June 6.

On Tuesday June 6, Niagara College’s extramural cricket team will face the Brock Cricket Club in a final match to decide the winner of the Niagara Cricket Cup.

Taking place at the Niagara Cricket Centre in Thorold from 5 – 8 p.m. the match between NC and Brock will decide the winner in a best of three series.

Niagara College’s cricket team was formed early this year in response to a strong student demand and interest in more cricket programming at the College. With the help of Ishan Patel – an NC student who plans to play professional cricket at the national level – NC held tryouts and is now well on the way to having one of the best cricket programs in the province.

“Niagara College’s cricket team is a tremendous group of students that share a passion for cricket and teamwork,” said Tom Fisher, Campus Recreation Coordinator. “The students are all extremely excited and proud to be a part of the inaugural cricket program and hope that this is just the beginning of growing cricket at the College and throughout the Niagara Region. Providing students with the opportunity to enjoy cricket while studying at NC is a great outlet for them to build new relationships and enrich their lives while they work towards achieving their dreams.”

The team currently has 17 students on its active roster with an additional 15 students on its practice roster. This provides players with the opportunity to have intersquad matches and allows more students to play and enjoy the game of cricket.

“It has been amazing to see how the love of cricket has created meaningful and lasting friendships amongst students from around the globe,” said Fisher. “The cricket team has become an important part of these students lives and it wouldn’t have been possible without the continuous support from NC’s Executive Team and International Department who have championed the creation of this team from the very beginning.”

While the match on June 6 marks the end of the Niagara Cricket Cup, NC’s cricket team will continue their season into the summer months. The team is currently scheduled to participate at a tournament at Conestoga College in Waterloo on June 28 will host Mohawk, Seneca and St. Lawrence College at NC’s own tournament on July 11 at the Niagara Cricket Centre.

Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to come out to the Niagara Cricket Centre at 5114 Thorold Townline Rd. on June 6 to cheer on NC!
