A message from Sara Pennisi, Senior Director, Student Services and Wellness:

It is with mixed emotions that I announce Hafsah Shaikh, Associate Director, Student Rights and Responsibilities Office, will be leaving Niagara College on April 14, 2023. Hafsah will be bringing her skills and experience to a new role with her family’s business.

Hafsah has worked at Niagara College for 10 years and has made significant contributions in the lives of students and colleagues. She has been instrumental in building our culture of student support and advocacy. Most notably, she has led substantial growth in Student Services by establishing the Student Rights and Responsibilities Office (SRRO) and developing the college’s Student Code of Conduct, Sexual Violence policy, and Consent is Key campaign.

Hafsah’s passion for addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence has made a global impact as she partnered with Niagara College Global Education and Partnerships and travelled to Kenya last year to deliver sexual and gender-based violence training to Kenyan TVET institutions.

Over the years, she has also been involved in numerous committees including the Nomination Review Committee for the Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce, NC representative on NCSAC Board of Directors, Sexual Violence Taskforce, Behaviour Intervention Team, and most recently was elected by her colleagues to serve as the administrative representative on the college’s Board of Governors.

Within the last decade, she has worked with numerous departments on a variety of college initiatives and complex student related concerns through which she had built a strong reputation of integrity and leadership.

Hafsah’s legacy demonstrates a true commitment to education and advocacy through a student-centered approach.

Please drop by to congratulate Hafsah on April 12 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in SA208 (Welland Campus) where light refreshments will be available.

We will greatly miss working alongside Hafsah and wish her all the very best!
