This March marks the 10-year anniversary since NC professor John Bauer lost his daughter Miranda to a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Since 2014, Bauer and his family have been honouring Miranda’s memory through the Making More Miracles fundraiser to support pediatric cancer research.
On Saturday, April 22, the fundraiser will return for the first time since the start of the pandemic, making it the seventh-tenth annual Making More Miracles event. The trivia night fundraiser, which will be held at John Michael’s Banquet Hall in Thorold, will include a dinner, live music, silent auction, penny raffle, a wine pull and the chance to win a grand prize.
Prior to her passing, Miranda was very involved in raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. She ran her own fundraiser in 2012 called Celebration of Miracles, where she helped raise over $10,000.
Miranda also took part in SickKids advertising campaigns such as Together We Will, where she was featured in a campaign poster around the GTA, and the You Got It photo and commercial campaign which aired in November 2012 and 2013. All proceeds from these campaigns went to SickKids for research. In 2012, she also helped design t-shirts and travel mugs for the Rally for Kids with Cancer at SickKids.
To carry on Miranda’s mission, the Bauer family has continued to host the annual Making More Miracles fundraiser since 2014. To date, the fundraiser has raised approximately $150,000 donated to SickKids to help save other children.
