Niagara College’s Indigenous Education department provides holistic student services and encourages students to explore identity, connect with other Indigenous students and create a sense of community by participating in the Centre’s programming and special events.
Each event and programming opportunity is thoughtfully and carefully designed to create a safe space for students to explore and celebrate their heritage and culture at both the Welland and Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Upcoming events for Indigenous students include:
Campfire Series
This is a four-part series beginning Feb. 1 which will encourage participants to reclaim their connection to the land while they learn from community Grandfather, Dave Labbe. Participants will learn about fire safety and traditional fire teachings while building connections through fire building.
Part one of the series will be held on Feb. 1 from 1 – 3 p.m.
This event will take place at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake in the outdoor classroom learning space, located beside the Indigenous Gardens.
Registration is not required.
Building your Bundle Wellness Workshops
Join Indigenous Counsellor, Jamie Consoli, as she leads students through a series of workshops that focus on holistic wellness. Learn new self-care and coping strategies. Become a member of the Indigenous Education Centre at Niagara College
Any student who identifies as Indigenous (First Nations Status or Non-Status, Metis, and Inuit, and/or has Indigenous ancestry) is encouraged to register.
Becoming a member is a voluntary process that allows students to access relevant information and events exclusive to Indigenous students at Niagara College.
Students can self-identify by filling out an online membership form which can be found on the Indigenous Education webpage or by visiting the Indigenous Education office at either campus.
