Message from Marc Nantel: Niagara College ranked No. 1 research college in Ontario, No. 2 in Canada

Message from Dr. Marc Nantel, Vice-President, Research, Innovation & Strategic Enterprises:

27 January 2023

Hi all,

As we wrap up another busy week at Niagara College, I’d like to draw your attention to one announcement that came out Wednesday of which I am extremely proud.

For the eighth year in a row, Niagara College has ranked among the top 10 colleges in the country for research funding, according to Research Infosource Inc’s Top 50 Research Colleges report.

Niagara College has earned the No. 2 spot in Canada as a top research college, and the No. 1 spot in Ontario. Since Research Infosource Inc. first published the report in 2013, NC has been in the top 15 consistently. That is 10 years in a row!

This is such exciting news for us and is something that each Niagara College staff member should celebrate with pride. To be recognized as the No. 1 research college in Ontario and the No. 2 in Canada is no small feat, and truly, is a testament to the quality of our people.

The Top 50 Research Colleges announcement highlights that Niagara College has been successful at attracting funding to help us offer the best experiential learning to our students. We provide top-tier support for our industry partners in the region who are coming to us to develop new products or services to grow the market. By doing that, we’re contributing to the economy and creating jobs in Ontario and across Canada.

News like this wouldn’t be possible without an incredibly talented Research & Innovation (R&I) team. On a daily basis, R&I team members make it a point to be collaborative, innovative and supportive of one another, and I do believe that this is what allows us to be successful in garnering the partnerships, funding and projects that we do. A true demonstration of Niagara College’s core values of being student-focused, welcoming, passionate, and trailblazing!

Niagara College is widely recognized as leaders in the administration of research throughout the Canadian college system, and influential on many Boards and Committees in that ecosystem. Our colleagues look to us as an example of success, and often ask our advice on how best to fund or manage research.

So I extend a sincere thank you to the whole NC community for constant support of R&I and for all that you do to forward our efforts. We know it takes a village to reach achievements like these, so shout-out to the professors who engage with community partners on course-based projects; to payroll, FMS and ITS; to the Executive Team for your vision and leadership; and to anyone who interacts with the R&I division, please know we appreciate you.

You can read the full media release about this tremendous achievement on the College’s website.

Thanks, take care,

Marc.
