A message from the Centre for Academic Excellence (CAE):

With nominations open until March 3 for the 2023 President’s Award for Innovation in Student Learning and Success, we wanted to give NC employees an overview of what the process entails.

Who can nominate or apply?

All employees – full- and part-time – engaged in the delivery and support of teaching or student success at NC are eligible. Individuals or teams may apply or be nominated for the award, and teams may be made up of two or more collaborators within or across units at the college who have contributed meaningfully to driving innovation. Teams can also include non-staff partners (students, employers, community members), so long as the lead applicant is a Niagara College employee.

Can I nominate myself or my team?

Yes, you are encouraged to self-nominate! Visit the Innovation Award FAQ page for more information.

Are nominations open or confidential?

If you plan to nominate your team of innovators, or others, they will need to know that you are nominating them and agree to share information about the innovation. For example, they may be asked to share at Niagara College’s Spotlight Conference in October 2023.

What are the key elements of a nomination?

A fulsome nomination package will provide evidence that the innovation impacts student learning and success. A perfectly completed innovation is not necessary; however, you should be able to provide some evidence of its impact on students. For example, your innovation can be a pilot, providing there is evidence of impact.

The three key steps

  1. Read the Application Guidelines, which include the application questions.
  2. Answer the application questions, which you can complete in written form (Word or PDF) or as a video. You should also ensure you have permission to share the innovation and have clarity on each of the team members or individuals you wish to include in the application.
  3. Complete the application form, where you will upload the Word/PDF document or video. Visit the Innovation Award website for more information on the process.
