I am thrilled to share that Niagara College is among Hamilton-Niagara’s top employers.
The winners were announced today in a special magazine published by the Hamilton Spectator. An article, Niagara College: A premier post-secondary institution for students — and employees, was also published.
Our selection is a true honour and a testament to the outstanding workplace culture that we have built together. Our unwavering focus on our students and their success, along with the welcoming, passionate and trailblazing characteristics that we share, have contributed to a learning environment and workplace that is now considered among the best in southern Ontario and beyond.
Hamilton-Niagara’s top employers were evaluated on eight criteria, including physical workplace; work atmosphere; and social, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
Organizers of the Hamilton-Niagara Top Employers awards shared that Niagara College received the top employer designation because of our exceptional maternity and parental leave salary top-up benefits, retirement planning assistance and generous contributions to a defined benefit pension, and a longstanding history of celebrating employee success through the Awards of Excellence, recognizing the exemplary work of employees.
Our top employer status builds on the 2021 Employee Engagement Survey which, with an overall engagement score of 83%, placed us among the top 10% of other surveyed academic institutions in Canada. That survey also helped us to identify what we’re doing well and areas for growth, as we strive to continuously improve and enhance a workplace where we’re inspired every day to support our students and do our best work.
This significant recognition also comes as we find ourselves in the midst of record hiring, spurred by growth and a bold new strategic plan. Recognition as a top employer elevates our brand and reputation and will help us to attract people who will help us to achieve our strategic goals. As we embrace our shared role as “NC recruiters,” our status as a top employer provides an additional tool as we seek to attract top talent to our team.
