A message from the Student Rights and Responsibilities Office (SRRO):

The Student Rights and Responsibilities Office (SRRO) would like to welcome Niagara College students and employees to learn about Human Trafficking from the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre during an in-person workshop on Friday, November 18 at the Welland Campus.

Human trafficking affects all communities, and the Niagara region is a major hub for this crime due to many factors including tourism and proximity to the border. The workshop covers luring and grooming techniques, how vulnerabilities of victims are exploited, red flags that could indicate victimization and what to do if someone suspects a friend, student, or classmate is being targeted or trafficked. The workshop will outline various programs and services that are available to all Niagara residents including in-person group and individual counselling, Anonymous Third-Party Reporting, Hospital Response Program, public education, and other forms of advocacy. The workshop will also discuss Niagara Sexual Assault Centre’s newly launched Human Trafficking Awareness Certification, aimed at educating the hospitality establishments throughout Niagara about the warning signs and ways to help victims.

Students and staff will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the presentation.

Please note that registration is limited. For more information about the upcoming training, please e-mail Elysia Dardarian, Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Coordinator at [email protected]
