Niagara College Director of Athletics and Student Engagement Michele O’Keefe promotes Welland Girls Sports Day in this Sept. 26 BPSN article.
The free NC-led event, happening on October 15 at the Empire Sportsplex in Welland, will introduce young girls between the ages of six and 12 to a variety of sports via stations led by NC Knights varsity coaches and athletes, and community members. The article also mentions that students from NC’s Hairstyling program will be on site to show participants how to do their hair for sport, and that NCSAC will provide a free lunch for the girls. NC Recreation Therapy Professor Erin Wilkie is also mentioned for her contributions to the accessible evento the event, which will include adaptive sports
O’Keefe explains that the goal of the event is to make girls feel comfortable playing different sports in various community settings.
