Collectors rejoice! Pin trading is the unofficial sport of the Canada Games and Niagara College is in the game with a limited-edition commemorative pin of our own.

Designed by NC’s Mark Hughes, graphic designer in Marketing, the pin features the College, Knights and Canada Games logos tied together in the centre with the Canada Games Council logo–the governing body for all Canada Games events. Waves in different shades of blue adorn the outer edge, a nod to the iconic Niagara Falls.

“Pins are currency at multi-sport events, and the Canada Games are no different,” said Michele O’Keefe, Director, Athletics and Student Engagement. “Niagara College is excited to take part in this playful sporting tradition and showcase the Knights brand to young athletes and spectators alike.”

According to Hughes, the three brands were given equal space to represent NC’s partnership with the Games. N22 Host Society colours and branding were applied to put the focus on the region as the host of this once-in-a-lifetime event. The centre placement of the clasp makes it possible to turn the pin to showcase the brand of the wearer.

Pin trading is a hallmark of multisport events, worn with pride on lanyards and a symbol of the souvenir culture attached to the Games. Each pin tells a story, including the memory attached to with whom it was traded. Provinces, territories, partners and sponsors are all contributing their own unique pins for athletes, organizers and spectators alike to flex their trading skills, make new connections, and create lasting memories.

A total of 8,000 NC pins will be in circulation with many gifted to basketball, volleyball and soccer teams, as well as at golf events.

NC’s International division will also share the pins with students and global partners.

“The pins represent a tangible way of expressing NC’s commitment to global engagement and participation and are an opportunity to share that engagement with our global and community partners,” explained Scott Slaney, Associate Director of Global Business Development. “From visiting delegates, global learners and community stakeholders, the pins are a symbol of how NC is involved in promoting the spirit of the games, the importance athletics has in global engagement and dialogue, and the impact of a shared aspiration of coming together through healthy activity and sport.”
