The long-awaited Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games kick off with Opening Ceremonies on August 6.
Beginning August 8, Niagara College will welcome up-and-coming athletes from across Canada to the Welland Campus for men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball competitions as part of the long-awaited Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.
While we anticipate that on-campus activity will be localized in the Athletic wing, NC students and employees may see a slight increase in traffic on campus from August 8 and 21.
“Niagara College is excited and honoured to host Canada’s most promising basketball and volleyball athletes at our Welland Campus for the N22 Canada Games,” said Michele O’Keefe, Director, Athletics and Student Engagement. “The chance to host these games on home court is truly historic for the College and a wonderful opportunity to see some of Canada’s best right in our own backyard.”
Designated parking on campus for Games ticket holders
NC will offer designated parking to ticket holders in Lots C 1-3 for the duration of the Games.
To ensure ample space for ticket holders, students and employees who are not attending the Games are asked to park in Lots A, D, E, F and G. Thank you for your cooperation.
Games at the Welland Campus
NC employees and students are invited to attend these once-in-a-lifetime games. Tickets are available for purchase in advance and at the door.
NC will share hosting duties for basketball in week one (August 8 to 13) with the Meridian Centre, and volleyball in week two (August 16 to 21) with Canada Games Park. NC will proudly host the semi-finals for women’s basketball on August 12.
Team Ontario plays PEI at the Welland Campus on Monday, August 8 at 5:30 p.m.
Fitness Centre accessible via alternate entry
The Fitness Centre at the Welland Campus will remain open for regular hours, however, users will be asked to use an alternate entry point. The regular access point will be reserved for those with Games accreditation (athletes, coaches, officials) to manage the flow of traffic.
To access the Fitness Centre during the Canada Games, users can take the staircase inside the Athletics Centre (by NCSAC) or via the Simcoe Elevator and use the door typically marked as an emergency exit (signage will be noted).
