It’s time to dig through your closets and drawers because Niagara College’s Student Engagement team is hosting a clothing drive for students from July 18 to 22 at both campuses.
From gently used clothing and accessories – both business professional or casual in style – to household items that students may need, a wide-range of items are being accepted from NC employees all week. Items for children including clothing, toys and books are also being accepted as many students have families to support at home.
Donations will be available for students in the glass activity room located in the cafeteria at each campus, where students may browse through the collection and choose items to take home. Depending on the number of donations, the giveaway event will run all week long.
NC Student Experience Coordinator Dana Brown noted that staff wanted to do something positive to help students who may be facing financial challenges.
“With inflation, increased transportation costs, and students unable to work full time when they are studying with us, we tried to come up with a way to give back and take the pressure off,” said Brown. “We have so many staff who work at the college who are always looking to donate their gently used items, and we thought summer was a great time to do this.”
What to donate
- Women’s and men’s clothing – business or casual in style (all sizes)
- Women’s and men’s accessories – shoes, bags/purses, jewelry, belts etc.
- Children’s clothing (all sizes), toys, books, supplies (markers, crayons, craft supplies)
Items must be gently used/in good condition – staff and faculty are asked to use good judgement when donating items. Community donations are not being accepted at this time and any remaining items will be donated to Goodwill.
How to donate
Donations are being accepted all week at both campuses.
NC staff and faculty may drop off their donations directly to the glass activity room (in the cafeteria at each campus) and are encouraged to put out their items on the tables/hangers if they have time, or simply leave the donations in bags for Engagement staff who will drop by periodically to organize the donations.
