A message from Natasha Patrito Hannon, Director, Teaching and Learning Innovation, Centre for Academic Excellence:

I am very pleased to announce that Kate Wiley joined the Centre for Academic Excellence team as an educational developer on May 2, 2022. She is seconded to the role for one year while our colleague, Apryl Gill, is away on a parental leave.

With over two decades of experience working in educational and employment assistance settings, Kate brings a wealth of expertise in student centered learning design and approaches that promote inclusion and belonging. Kate joins us from the Health, Wellness, and Accessibility team where she worked as an Accessibility Consultant since 2019. In that role, Kate supported students navigating the accommodations process and liaised with faculty and staff to ensure that students were able to access and participate meaningfully in their learning experiences. Kate has exceptional cross-cultural, inter-personal and problem-solving skills. Her passion for accessibility in education and her direct insights into the challenges experienced by NC students will benefit the CAE team and will enable us to develop and deliver programming that is more responsive to student needs. Kate is also deeply invested in the broader Niagara community and currently serves as an Accessibility Advisory Member for the City of St. Catharines, a Cabinet Member & Ambassador for the Niagara Children’s Centre, and Council Chair of the Jeanne Sauvé French Immersion School.

Please join me in extending a heartfelt welcome to Kate as she begins her new role in the CAE. Kate is a tremendous addition to the team and her expertise will expand our ability to support inclusive, accessible education at NC.

A special thanks to Whit Ross and Apryl Gill for their contributions and input throughout the recruitment and interview process.

Kate, we are very excited to welcome you to the CAE!
