It was a ‘spa day’ to remember for local high school students.
On April 26 and 27, almost 70 high school students from the Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) visited the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake for an overview of the College’s Esthetician program and the Teaching Spa.
NC Esthetician professors Susan Paone and Lisa Maurice, as well as Technologists Lorraine MacDonald and Arlene Raeli, led the high school students in a hands-on workshop on manicure massage and waxing. Guests were provided with background information about the Esthetician program and had a chance to tour the Teaching Spa.
While the Teaching Spa was a focal point for visitors from the NCDSB’s Specialist High Skills Major cosmetology programs, the students also had an opportunity to tour the entire campus, and learn about NC’s Greenhouse, Teaching Winery, Teaching Brewery, Teaching Distillery, Canadian Food and Wine Institute, Marotta Family Innovation Centre, the library, the gym and fitness areas, Student Administrative Council, Enrolment Services, International, security, as well as Health Wellness and Accessibility.
Visitors included students from Lakeshore Catholic High School (Port Colborne), Notre Dame College School (Welland), Saint Michael Catholic High School (Niagara Falls), and Saint Paul Catholic High School (Niagara Falls). Saint Michael teacher Cristina Maddalena and Notre Dame teacher Mark Infusini accompanied the high school students to NC.
The experience was a collaboration between the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Sport; NC Marketing and Recruitment; and the NCDSB.
