From Friday, March 11 to Sunday, March 13, flags at Niagara College campuses will be lowered to half-mast to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives to COVID-19 and to encourage a time for reflection at the two-year anniversary of the first COVID-19 case in the Niagara region.
The College first lowered its flags last year to mark the National Day of Observance for COVID-19, which was declared on March 11, 2021 by the Federal Government inviting all Canadians to honour victims and reflect on the significant impacts of the pandemic.
Niagara College continues to recognize the challenges that have been felt by many individuals as a result of the pandemic over the last two years, the continued efforts of our local health-care teams and essential workers, and the resilience of our college and local communities.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, more than 500 Niagara residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.
