On Monday, December 6, flags at Niagara College campuses were lowered to half-mast to recognize Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Violence Against Women and to honour the memory of the 14 young women who lost their lives on this day in 1989 in the tragic mass shooting at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women is about honouring those who have experienced gender-based violence, and those we have lost to it. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women falls within the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10, an initiative to end violence against women, led by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
