Niagara Dailies: Niagara College coach, players honoured after undefeated regular season in women’s soccer

Bernd Franke, Regional Sports Editor with the Niagara Dailies, wrote about several awards picked up by members of the NC Knights women’s soccer program on the heels of their 2021 season.

Head Coach Rob Lalama was honoured with the OCAA’s Coach of the Year Award for leading the team to an undefeated regular season. The article includes a comment from NC’s Associate Director of Athletics and Recreation Michele O’Keefe who applauds Lalama’s coaching style.

The article also highlights student-athlete award recipients:

  • Fourth-year midfielder Sydney Sica earned the OCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year Award with nine goals and 18 points this season. She also earned CCAA All-Canadian status and was selected as a South Division All-Star.
  • Knights second-year midfielder Terin Hultink earned the OCAA South Division Top Scoring Award with  nine goals and 20 points this season and was also named to the OCAA South Division All-Star team.
  • First-year defender McKenna Jackson received the OCAA South division Rookie of the Year Award, the OCAA South Division Defensive Player of the Year Award and OCAA South Division All-Star recognition.
  • Midfielders Ashley Altamirano and Alyssa Arcand were also named to the OCAA South Division All-Star team, resulting in the Knights having five of seven all-stars making the OCAA South Division All-Star team.
