The Niagara Dailies shared the latest cannabis-related news coming out of NC with the announcement of the Cannabis Edibles Applied Research initiative.
Administered by NC’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute (CFWI) Innovation Centre, the project will conduct applied research and development for food and beverages containing cannabinoids such as gummies, chocolate, hard candy, baked goods, and non-alcoholic beverages like tea. An area of focus will be on the infusion and dispersion of active ingredients like CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol – the key psychoactive component in cannabis) within the edibles.
The article mentions how the research will help guide industry partners when producing new products and fill a void in scientific research within the newly legal area – cannabis-infused edibles only gained legal status by Health Canada in October 2019.
