Riders, tune up your bikes – it’s time to register for NC’s Big Move Cancer Ride team!
For the third year, NC’s organizing trio Joanne Maltby, Mike Pasquale, and Janet Pizzati, are inviting NC staff and faculty – amateur and experienced cyclists alike – to take part in the annual Niagara Health Foundation fundraiser in support of the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
“We’re ready to once again show our Niagara College spirit in support of a great cause. Cancer hasn’t quit during the pandemic and, sadly, many of us know someone who has been impacted,” said NC’s Joanne Maltby, team captain. “The support we received from the NC community over the years has been incredible, with donations coming in from across the College in 2019 and 2020. We are excited to build momentum and see what we can accomplish together this year.”
This year’s virtual ride will take place between September 3 to 19. All are welcome to register for the NC team and ride at their own place, alone or in small groups, making sure to follow the public health guidelines for cycling. For convenience and accessibility, route options of various distances (10km, 25km, 50km, and 75km+) have been mapped out throughout the region.
New this year, NC’s organizing team are challenging those who dare attempt a 100km ride, led by team captain Maltby.
Depending upon interest from registrants, NC organizers will coordinate small group rides of various distances that respect local and provincial regulations and NC COVID-19 safety protocols. Stay tuned for information on training rides from BMR organizers later this summer.
The organizing team is exploring having more NC cycling jerseys available for purchase in advance of the ride. Stay tuned for more information.
The NC team has set a fundraising goal of $5,000. You can register to participate or donate to the NC Big Move team by visiting: ofnhs.akaraisin.com/ui/bigmove2021/t/3e6884abc16947bb8069aacc586e5a41
