With summer approaching, I am writing to share that the Executive Team has approved Friday, July 2 as an additional day off college-wide. With Canada Day (July 1) falling on a Thursday, this will provide a much-needed extra-long weekend.

While the temperatures – and vaccination levels – are on the rise while COVID cases fall, I know we are all looking forward to a gradual return to a more normal life. While thoughts of those coming days are uplifting, we still need to focus on our wellbeing in the present – and I hope the extra-long weekend will provide an opportunity to rest and recharge.

Many of you have already requested July 2 as a vacation day. Full-time employees who are scheduled to be on vacation on this date do not need to take further action — it will be returned to your vacation bank to be used at a later date. Employees whose positions require them to be on duty on July 2 will receive an additional vacation day to be scheduled in consultation with your supervisor. Part-time staff who would normally work on July 2 will be paid for their regularly-scheduled hours.

Thank you once again for your ongoing hard work and dedication in support of our students. I hope this extra time away from work will provide you with an opportunity to rest, relax and celebrate our country’s 154th birthday!
