On April 17, NC’s associate director of Athletics and Recreation Michele O’Keefe spoke with Rod Mawhood on Newstalk 610 CKTB’s Niagara Sports Report.
During the interview, O’Keefe discusses the topic of sustainability and sport on the heels of an event, which was hosted by NC, the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games and the Canada Games Council, that explored the relationship between the two areas. She mentions the three pillars of sustainability – environmental, economic, and social – and notes how climate change is a big part of the conversation in the sports world, giving examples of how changing temperatures and snowfall affect the sporting season.
O’Keefe also says that it’s important to keep shining a light on the conversation to encourage the next generation to consider careers that include a sustainability component and to help realize a sustainable future for sports in Niagara.
