During the week of April 19, 2021, a construction project in the Merritt building at the Welland Campus will begin.
The project involves replacing the structural supports (lintels) above the windows and doors on the second floor, west side of the Merritt wing. The construction involves asbestos abatement and the contractors will be installing asbestos enclosures to ensure adherence to type 3 asbestos abatement requirements.
Like most buildings constructed prior to the 1990s, the Merritt building includes areas where asbestos is present in some materials used for flooring and insulation. The asbestos abatement will follow all required regulations and guidelines, and will not affect the health and safety of students and staff in any way.
Staff and faculty who have offices in this area have been asked to gather all required equipment prior to the start of construction as the Merritt wing will have restricted access until the project is complete.
No classes will be scheduled in this area for the summer term.
The Merritt construction project is scheduled to take place from April 19 to August 15.
