Students in NC’s Broadcasting – Radio, Television and Film program receive a mention in this April 7 story by Penny Coles with The Niagara-on-the-Lake Local.

The piece features the Nyanyas of Niagara, a NOTL-based group of grandmothers who raise funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation in support of African grandmothers. The Nyanyas, which Coles notes is Swahili for grandmother, contacted the BRTF program to seek help in filming segments for a virtual concert taking place on April 15 with 160 grandmothers’ groups from across Canada.

Terry Mactaggart with the Nyanyas is quoted: “Students help the community in so many ways. They need the experience and they have good mentorship through their professors.”

A photo is also included showing BRTF students Charlie Short (camera operator/assistant editor) and Tayvis McCullough (producer/editor) hard at work at Jackson Triggs Estate Winery where they filmed segments with some of the grandmothers.
