Niagara College looks forward to expanding collaborative opportunities in Europe through a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing on March 11 with New College Lanarkshire located in Scotland, United Kingdom.
The three-year MOU was signed between Sean Coote, NC vice president of International, and Iain Clark, New College Lanarkshire vice president of Resources via Zoom.
“I believe this will mark the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership as New College Lanarkshire and Niagara College both support students in transforming their passion into a thriving career through an education deeply rooted in industry,” said Coote. “This new agreement demonstrates Niagara College’s continued commitment to creating culturally and globally engaged staff and students.”
With more than 10,000 students enrolled, New College Lanarkshire is one of the largest colleges in Scotland and has campuses in Cumbernauld, Motherwell, Coatbridge, Kirkintilloch, Hamilton and Broadwood.
The partnership between NC and New College Lanarkshire will allow students, faculty and staff the opportunity to benefit from best practices in both Scotland and Canada’s applied education system.
The first project NC and New College Lanarkshire will collaborate on together is the development of a formal award in sustainability, aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The award is expected to be launched at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland in November.
“Sustainability has been defined as one of New College Lanarkshire’s Strategy 2025 values and is a key focus for us in the coming years,” said Clark. “We can definitely learn a lot from Niagara College as we look to embed sustainability principles into our culture here at NCL.”
“As well as the award, we are looking at a number of other ways we can collaborate in future, such as staff and student exchanges. In the meantime, we’ll examine ways we can work together virtually across faculty areas. We are really excited and enthused about the partnership, which we hope will be the beginning of a fruitful and long lasting relationship.”
As Canada’s global college, NC has many partnerships around the world and New College Lanarkshire is one of the latest partners to join this global network.
