The Niagara Independent reported on a recent funding announcement made by the Ontario government in support of Niagara’s post-secondary institutions. Niagara College and Brock University will collectively receive 750,000 from the province to help increase mental health supports for students in need with NC receiving $348,749 of the funding.
The financial boost, announced by the associate minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo and Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff on February 25 via Zoom, is part of the province’s investment of $26 million for mental health supports for postsecondary students in 2020-21. NC president Sean Kennedy and NC’s director of Student Services Lianne Gagnon were in attendance to represent the college.
The coverage includes a quote from NC president Sean Kennedy who says, “Our students’ health and wellness has always been, and continues to be, a top priority for Niagara College. This new mental health funding will allow us to offer additional support to students in our community and expand our virtual and online resources.”
