Message from Pam Skinner: Update on remote work

Earlier this week we shared with students our decision to continue with a mix of remote and hybrid delivery in the Spring 2021 term that begins in May. This decision is based on our ongoing monitoring of the trajectory of the pandemic, and the evolving measures and directives from government and public health.

Based on current trends and available information, we are anticipating a more significant return to on-campus delivery and operations for the Fall 2021 term. As we look ahead, I wanted to provide an update on our plans for a return to on-campus work.

The current policy of limiting on-campus work to those performing essential duties, and those delivering approved on-campus programs and services is expected to continue through the end of the Winter 2021 term. While we’re not at the point where we can say with absolute certainty when any additional on-campus work will begin, we do know the principles that will guide the process when it occurs. As we’ve shared previously, the return to on-campus work will be carefully planned, gradual, flexible and well-informed by science, information and advice from public health, and employee feedback. Employees returning to work will receive advance notice and we will provide as much opportunity as possible to adapt to a return to on-campus work, while ensuring that appropriate supports are available for the transition.

While we were given little choice more than 10 months ago when our world changed and our operations and work became largely remote, we’ve learned so much over that time in terms of how our work can be done differently. These important lessons in adaptability and flexibility will be valuable as we explore options for our operations and work arrangements over the longer term.

Whether you’re currently performing your duties remotely or on campus, your work is the reason that we continue to meet the needs of our students and our community in challenging times. Thank you for your willingness to adapt, your perseverance, and your continued commitment to our college and our students.

Further information regarding our eventual return to on-campus work will be shared as new information becomes available and additional decisions are made. If you have questions, please contact your dean or director.

In the meantime, please continue to be safe – stay home except for essential trips, avoid gatherings outside of your household, wear a mask, physically distance, wash your hands and if you have symptoms, get tested and self-isolate.
